Postdoctoral researcher position
Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Cosmology
University of Chicago, Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics
About
The University of Chicago seeks a postdoctoral researcher in experimental cosmology to work with Prof. Jessica Zebrowski, whose group develops instruments and observational techniques to study the early universe, large-scale structure and galaxy formation. Opportunities include analysis of first science data from the Terahertz Intensity Mapper (TIM), a balloon-borne [CII] line-intensity mapping experiment; development and characterization of millimetre- and submillimetre-wave instrumentation such as on-chip spectrometers and superconducting detectors; low-frequency radio instrumentation and observing strategies for 21-cm cosmology from the Dark Ages; and new cosmological probes using Little Red Dots as tracers of large-scale structure at redshifts of about 4 to 9.
The anticipated start is summer or fall 2027, with a salary range of $70,000–$75,000 plus benefits. Applications are reviewed from 15 January 2027 until the position is filled.
Requirements
Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, astrophysics or a related field by the start date. Experience in astronomical instrumentation, superconducting detectors, line intensity mapping, radio astronomy or cosmological data analysis is particularly welcome. Application via Academic Jobs Online: CV, research statement (3-page limit excluding references) and contact details for three referees; at least three reference letters are required.
