In Bio-Informatics and Biochemistry

This practical introduction develops reproducible scientific workflows using Nextflow. Participants learn channels, processes, operators, executors, configuration, parameters and reusable modules, then apply them to an RNA-seq pipeline. The course shows how containerized dependencies and the dataflow programming model support execution on local machines, clusters and cloud infrastructure. Familiarity with Linux or macOS and a command shell is strongly recommended. Online sessions run 09:30–13:30 CET and the listed fee is €380.

AlphaFold for gene structure annotation

Dan Rigden · University of Liverpool

Protein-structure prediction can help distinguish competing gene models. Studies of two fungi and an apicoplast compare original and manually curated annotations, finding that structure-derived scores favour curated models when predictions differ in structured domains. These signals complement sequence-domain analysis but offer little help for uncertainty in potentially disordered regions. The presentation also examines Protenix-mini as a faster alternative retaining discriminatory power, complete-proteome scoring, and a NextFlow pipeline intended to make the workflow usable. It considers appl
