Assistant professors or equivalent at US non-doctoral departments, normally within five years of their first regular faculty appointment, with PhD requirements completed. Institutional PI approval and authority to supervise undergraduates are required. Existing active PRF award holders cannot apply.

Regularly appointed faculty at eligible non-profit institutions must qualify as principal investigators and normally be able to supervise graduate students. Countries must be ones where ACS PRF can administer grants; restrictions on existing PRF awards apply.

Covers: USD 110,000 over two years. At least 60% supports student education and training. PI summer salary is capped at USD 8,000 per grant year, including fringe benefits.

Regularly appointed faculty at US nonprofit academic institutions within three years of their first assistant-professor or equivalent appointment; documented tenure-clock extensions may apply. The institution must recognize PI status and graduate-student supervision eligibility. Research must be independent of the applicant’s graduate and postdoctoral work and relevant to fundamental petroleum science.

Covers: EUR 1,850 monthly for three years, up to EUR 1,000 yearly eligible expenses, plus qualifying child, relocation and temporary research-abroad allowances. Later applications can shorten the term.

Excellent qualifying degree completed within the standard study period, subject to approved exceptions. Apply within four months of starting the doctorate for the full term; applications after six months are ineligible. Only one application per supervisor per round. Nationality and German-study conditions apply.

Covers: Three years, potentially extended by two. Current terms: EUR 3,400 monthly, EUR 3,000 annual academic expenses, EUR 50,000 equipment allowance and a three-year doctoral fellowship. From January 2027, published terms replace the annual expense provision with a EUR 55,000 equipment allowance; other supplements may apply.

Outstanding PhD in chemistry or a related field, normally within three years of application, and evidence of independence. A German university or non-university host and mentor commitment are required; return to the PhD institution or supervisor group is excluded.
