The sixth H3D symposium brings scientists and pharmaceutical researchers together around chemistry and biology for infectious diseases. The programme covers drug discovery, chemical biology, medicinal and synthetic chemistry, infectious-disease biology and enabling technologies, with scientific talks, posters and networking. It takes place at the Arabella Hotel, Golf and Spa outside Hermanus, South Africa, from 13 to 16 October 2026. Standard delegate registration is open until 10 October 2026. Abstract submission closed on 15 May and early registration closed on 31 July; those actions are no longer open.

Louis Fensterbank traces organic synthesis from nineteenth-century natural-product isolation to the construction of increasingly complex molecules, and considers its contributions to medicine, agriculture, materials and longer lives. The lecture examines two current challenges: using automation and artificial intelligence to explore new chemical space for therapeutics and advanced materials, and developing greener synthesis that reduces waste, energy use and toxicity. It considers how molecular innovation can advance alongside environmental protection. Fensterbank is Professor at Collège de France. Makoto Fujita provides commentary; Marie Oshima moderates. Funds experimental advancement of AI-discovered therapeutic leads for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Separate tracks support lead optimization and work enabling an investigational-new-drug submission. Awards are up to USD 1 million over two to three years. Pure algorithm development, general AI platforms, repurposing and clinical trial execution are excluded. Letters of intent are due 20 October 2026 at 17:00 Eastern time (22 October for ISTAART members); invited full applications follow on 15 December (17 December for members).

Support for academic researchers to conduct high-throughput screening using AstraZeneca’s compound library and screening infrastructure. The January 2027 round is open to all targets and provides awards up to GBP270,000. Projects must be directed by an eligible research lead actively engaged in the work. Commercial-led applications and collaborations involving additional commercial parties are excluded. Apply through UKRI’s Funding Service by 28 January 2027 at 16:00 UK time.
