Description

BIF doctoral fellowships support ambitious experimental basic biomedical research, including eligible in silico projects, for two to three and a half years. Support includes a stipend, travel allowances, training and the fellows’ network. The recurring programme has annual deadlines on 1 February, 1 June and 1 October; the next deadline is 1 October 2026. Applicants submit an English-language proposal and the specified supporting documents through the funder’s application process.

Eligibility

European citizens conducting research in Europe or overseas, or non-European citizens pursuing their PhD in Europe. Normally apply before or within six months of starting the project; university-entrance qualification must normally be within eight years. The scheme supports basic experimental biomedical research, not clinical studies, applied development, or the coursework/rotation phase.
