About

Investigate audiovisual speech processing in adult cochlear implant users on a Wellcome-funded project led by Guangting Mai at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit. Cross-sectional and longitudinal studies will combine EEG and high-density diffuse optical tomography to examine how audition and lip-reading interact during rehabilitation. The project asks whether visual speech supports adaptive or maladaptive changes in auditory processing, with implications for rehabilitation, prediction of implant outcomes and neuromodulation.

The appointment is funded for three years full-time, or extended pro rata for part-time work, preferably at least 0.7 FTE. Salary is £37,694–£46,049. Submit a covering letter, CV and referee details by 16 October 2026.
