About
The Motzkin Lab in the UCSF Department of Neurology studies the brain network mechanisms of chronic pain and of pain relief from neuromodulation. The specialist will acquire, preprocess and analyse high-resolution structural and functional brain imaging data, including fMRI and diffusion tensor imaging, from patients with chronic pain, aiming to identify reproducible brain network signatures of chronic pain and how they change with therapeutic interventions such as transcranial magnetic stimulation.
The lab is particularly interested in applying network neuroscience concepts such as precision functional mapping, graph theory and hierarchical clustering to clinical imaging data, in collaboration with clinicians and neuroscientists working with TMS, deep brain stimulation and focused ultrasound across neuropsychiatric disorders.
Requirements
Assistant Specialist: master's or bachelor's degree in neuroscience, bioengineering, computational biology, mathematics, statistics, psychology or a related field with three or more years of research experience; Associate requires a master's degree or five to ten years of relevant experience, and Full a terminal degree or ten or more years. Proficiency with MRI processing tools (fMRIPrep, QSIPrep, AFNI, FSL or SPM), programming in Python, shell, MATLAB or R, and running neuroimaging pipelines.
