John Otto Haas Molecular Ecologist; Morris Arboretum & Gardens
University of Pennsylvania
About
The John Otto Haas Molecular Ecologist leads a plant molecular ecology research programme at Morris Arboretum & Gardens of the University of Pennsylvania, combining fieldwork, herbarium and living collections with the new Plant Science Laboratory. Research uses molecular tools to study evolutionary patterns such as conservation genetics and functional genomics, spatial dynamics such as landscape genetics and phylogeography, and community-scale processes including plant-animal interactions, the plant microbiome and metagenomics or eDNA.
The ecologist plans and runs field and laboratory projects, publishes and presents results, supports colleagues in bioinformatics and analytical computing, seeks independent funding, teaches courses at Penn and at Morris, and mentors students, interns, apprentices and volunteers. Morris Arboretum, in northwest Philadelphia, holds more than 13,000 woody plants. The posted pay range is $67,155 to $95,000 per year.
