PhD Position / University Assistant, SAL Lab PERL: high-frequency power electronics

Doctoral position at the Institute of Electric Drives and Power Electronic Systems, Graz University of Technology, in PERL, a new university lab set up with Silicon Austria Labs for basic research on high-frequency switched converters. Research covers high-frequency switched power-electronic systems with a focus on resonant topologies, control and sensing based on wide-bandgap semiconductors such as SiC and GaN. Concepts are analysed and verified with circuit simulators and FEM simulations and validated on laboratory prototypes, leading to a dissertation and publications at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.

The role includes teaching in power electronics, supervising Bachelor's and Master's theses and institute administration. Full-time for 48 months from December 2026, with a minimum annual gross salary of EUR 52,865.40.

Master's or diploma in electrical engineering or a related field; very good German and English; knowledge of power electronics and practical experience with wide-bandgap power semiconductors. Desirable: experimental and analytical/numerical work including circuit simulation, building and commissioning power-electronics hardware, and FPGA experience.
