About
Four-year doctoral position in Prof. Philip Walther's Quantum Information Science and Quantum Computation group at the University of Vienna's Faculty of Physics, part of the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology and the Austrian Cluster of Excellence quantA. The group develops scalable photonic quantum technology, including solid-state single-photon sources, integrated waveguides, tailored nonlinear media and superconducting detectors, and uses it for quantum computing, quantum information and fundamental questions such as gravitational effects on entangled photons.
The candidate works on a funded experimental project on quantum foundations with table-top photonic experiments and becomes a fellow of the Vienna Doctoral School in Physics. Teaching in lab courses and exercise classes is part of the role. The contract is 30 hours per week to 30 November 2030, with a basic salary of EUR 3,776.10 on a full-time basis.
Requirements
Master's or Diploma in physics with a thesis in experimental quantum optics; experience with table-top experiments, photonic platforms, optical nonlinear processes and quantum foundations; free-space bulk optics; academic writing; Python and LaTeX; excellent English.
