About

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Intramural Research Program is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for the Biobehavioral Imaging & Molecular Neuropsychopharmacology Section in Baltimore, Maryland. The laboratory investigates how drugs act in the brain and translates mechanistic discoveries into new therapeutic approaches, working at the interface of neuroscience, pharmacology and technology development. It combines in vitro and in vivo approaches to identify drug mechanisms, evaluate candidate therapeutics and develop tools for monitoring and modulating the brain, with research spanning substance use disorders, pain and related neuropsychiatric conditions.

The fellow develops and leads hypothesis-driven projects, designs and runs experiments, analyses data, prepares manuscripts and presents at scientific meetings.

Requirements

PhD, MD or equivalent doctoral degree and a strong research background in one or more of behavioral pharmacology/neuroscience, receptor pharmacology and cellular assays, molecular biology, synthetic biology, electrophysiology, neuromodulation and molecular neuroimaging. Interest in mentoring junior scientists and in learning new methods across disciplines is valued. Application: CV, statement of research background and interests, and names and contact information for three references, sent to the listed contact, Michael Michaelides.
