About

NSF's ChemMatCARS, a national user facility at Sector 15 of the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory affiliated with the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, seeks a postdoctoral researcher in advanced crystallography. The scholar develops an independent project under the guidance of Dr. Yu-Sheng Chen, conducting experiments with state-of-the-art crystallography instruments, analysing data and building analysis tools.

Recent APS and ChemMatCARS upgrades enable small-molecule serial crystallography, diffraction anomalous fine structure (DAFS) below 5 keV and quantum crystallography, relevant to chemistry, materials science, biology and chemical engineering. The start date is as soon as possible, with an initial two-year appointment and a possible one-year extension. Applicants must meet the requirements for access to Argonne National Laboratory.

Requirements

Ph.D. in materials science, physical chemistry, chemical engineering or a closely related field with experience in diffraction experiments; strong experimental skills and initiative; excellent written and oral communication; ability to work collaboratively while pursuing an individual project. Preferred: synchrotron diffraction experience and programming in Python, Matlab, C++ or Fortran. Application: CV, statement of research interests and three recommendation letters sent to Dr. Yu-Sheng Chen.
