Seminar

The role of machine learning in quantum software and compilation

Olivia Di Matteo · University of British Columbia

Fri, Oct 30, 2026 · 19:00 UTC

Olivia Di Matteo introduces quantum computing and compilation, examining how the translation from high-level quantum programs to efficient hardware instructions becomes a bottleneck as applications scale. The seminar identifies parts of the quantum software stack where machine learning and artificial intelligence can improve this process. It presents the group’s work using graph-based reinforcement learning to optimize quantum circuits, then considers outstanding challenges and research questions for scalable quantum software.

Conference

ADASS XXXVI

Nov 1–5, 2026

The 36th Astronomical Data Analysis Software and Systems conference brings together developers and users of astronomical software, algorithms and data systems. ICRAR hosts the meeting with SKAO, CSIRO and AusSRC. The programme includes research presentations, tutorials and community discussions. General registration remains open until 15 October 2026, and poster abstracts close on 1 October; the early-bird period has ended. Online registration is also available.

Grant

ISC Technical Grants — 2026 Second Cycle

R Consortium

Deadline Thu, Oct 1, 2026

Support for focused projects that strengthen the R ecosystem’s technical or social infrastructure through open-source software and tools. Proposals should benefit the wider R community, identify clear deliverables and milestones, and show preliminary work that reduces delivery risk. Narrow-user projects, highly exploratory research, hardware/cloud purchases and conference/workshop sponsorship are generally outside this call. The second 2026 round is open from 1 September through 1 October 2026 at 11:59 p.m. US Eastern Time. Submit a two-to-five-page proposal using the required template through the linked Google-account form. Funding is paid 50% upon contract signature and 50% on completion; no fixed award cap is published.
