Investigate whether conserved protein structures can improve phylogenetic inference for deeply diverged or rapidly evolving sequences. The workflow retrieves predicted structures, evaluates homology and alignment quality, and combines amino-acid and Foldseek 3Di representations for likelihood-based trees. Exercises compare structural alignment tools, evolutionary models, information criteria and distance methods, then visualise and statistically compare trees. Discussions examine assumptions and limitations of structure-based evidence. Live sessions: 2, 4, 5 and 6 November, 08:00–12:00, Europe/Madrid (CET, UTC+01:00). Total 22 hours: 16 live plus six independent. English-language live online course; Fee €560; Ambassador Institution rate €448. VAT included. Capacity: 15. R experience is expected and Unix familiarity is helpful. Participants install the listed analysis and visualisation software before the course. Registration requires acceptance; payment follows confirmation. Recordings are provided, but live attendance is required for a certificate.

This practical workshop trains structural biologists in cryoelectron tomography and subtomogram averaging using nextPYP, TomoBEAR and Warp/M, with teaching by the software developers. It follows the processing pipeline from tilt-series alignment and reconstruction through tomogram visualisation and archiving, manual and automated particle picking, extraction, subtomogram alignment and averaging, refinement and classification. Participants will build averaging projects and create three-dimensional maps. The workshop begins at 09:00 on 2 December and ends at 15:00 on 4 December 2026, Stockholm time (CET, UTC+1). No previous experience is required; bring a laptop and mouse. Selection considers applicants’ research projects and plans, with priority for current cryoET researchers and SciLifeLab cryo-EM facility users. Submit an application letter and CV by 23 October at 16:00; decisions are expected by 2 November, and payment is due 20 November. Fees are SEK 1,600 for academic participants and SEK 4,800 for industry. They cover three days of teaching, materials, lunches, refreshments, a certificate and the second-night dinner; travel and accommodation are additional.

A practical doctoral course in rational, physics-based and AI approaches to protein design. Topics include coiled-coil design, Rosetta, structure-based generative models, protein language models, screening and selection, proteins for extreme or cellular environments, molecular recognition, dynamic complexes, switches and motor proteins. Participants construct algorithms and use existing design software through readings, problem-based exercises and discussion. The programme also addresses translation, innovation and responsible research. In-person teaching runs 1–12 February 2027 in Copenhagen; the published course span is 09:00 on the first day to 17:00 on the last. Teaching is in English and awards 8.1 ECTS. Prior protein-chemistry training, Python, Unix and a laptop are required. The fee is DKK 16,080; eligible Danish-university and NorDoc PhD students are exempt. Danish PhD students have seat priority; other applicants wait until the 3 January deadline before remaining places are allocated.

The workshop integrates cryo-electron tomography, fluorescence microscopy, mass spectrometry and computational modeling to investigate macromolecular complexes within intact biological systems. Sessions connect molecular machines with organelles, whole cells and multicellular interactions, emphasizing complementary data and methods that preserve native context. It welcomes experts and early-career life scientists interested in advanced imaging and system-wide analysis. On-site sessions start at 13:30 on 9 February and finish at 12:30 on 12 February, Europe/Berlin time. On-site registration closes on 5 January; virtual registration closes on 2 February 2027. Virtual attendance includes live talks, questions and time-limited access to recordings where speakers permit.

AI structure prediction and physics-based simulations provide complementary views of molecular interactions. This workshop integrates them to study conformational change, heterogeneity, disordered regions, molecular machines and multicomponent complexes. Around half of the programme comprises practical computational work, with participants using their own scientific problems in hands-on sessions, short presentations and troubleshooting discussions.

This lecture course examines how viral architecture, mechanical properties and dynamics determine infection, and how quantitative physical methods can explain or control these processes. Themes include capsid assembly, membrane fusion and entry, single-virus and single-molecule measurements, virus–host interactions, organelle remodeling, mathematical models, computation and AI, synthetic virus-inspired systems, and optical, atomic-force and cell-free methods. The course primarily serves doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, with lectures, participant talks, posters and discussions with speakers. Applications require a research abstract and motivation statement. Residential fees include five nights and full board; limited financial support is available.

This EMBO Workshop examines how computational structural biology is moving from static structure prediction toward molecular dynamics, ensembles, biological context and design. Six scientific sessions cover integrative all-atom models and assemblies; nucleic acids and their protein interactions; physics-based simulations; machine-learned dynamics; biomolecular design and drug discovery; and function, evolution and mechanism. The programme combines invited and abstract-selected talks with a round-table discussion, posters, a job fair and networking. Two sessions focus on dynamics, alongside expanded nucleic-acid and biological applications. The meeting takes place at EMBL Heidelberg with virtual attendance available. Registration has not yet opened.
