Neuroscience funding

For incoming foreign researchers living outside Sweden who intend a temporary postdoctoral stay. Residents of Sweden and people who completed any academic education at KI or another Swedish institution are ineligible. A doctorate or equivalent must be completed before the intended start; candidates finishing their doctorate may apply. Scholarships cover at most two years within four years of the doctorate. Extensive circuit/systems neuroscience experience, quantitative methods, statistics, programming and at least one first-author paper are required.

Current postdoctoral fellows at accredited colleges/universities, or fellows in postdoctoral appointments when funding begins, worldwide and without a US-citizenship requirement. Research must be linked to autism. A tenured/tenure-track or equivalent active autism-research mentor is required and may be named on only one SOS application. One recommendation from someone other than the mentor is required.

Master’s and PhD neuroscience students and postdocs within five years of starting their postdoc, currently based in Europe. FENS or eligible Pan-Europe IBRO membership, host acceptance and a home-laboratory recommendation are required. Insurance, equipment, groceries and personal expenses are excluded.

MD and/or PhD from 2023 onward, subject to documented interruption or clinical-training exceptions; obtain a Neuro supervisor’s agreement and support letter plus two sponsor assessments. Award-specific conditions apply.

PhD in computational biology or a relevant biomedical field with computational expertise, Python/R skills and at least one first-author publication. The doctorate must be completed before starting and normally within the preceding four years. Applicants must meet KI’s foreign-researcher conditions: resident outside Sweden and no academic education at a Swedish institution.

Open to any nationality with a completed PhD and no more than six years of actual postdoctoral research experience at the deadline, allowing career breaks and part-time adjustments. Applicants must show a current need for flexibility, such as primary caring responsibilities or a clinically diagnosed health condition. Tenure-track, permanent and proleptic postholders, and researchers who hold or previously held an equivalent UK independent-group fellowship, are ineligible. The host must be an eligible UK higher-education, research-council, nonprofit research or public-sector research institution.

ASNR members in the specified diagnostic-radiology/neuroradiology training pathways, including senior residents in a dedicated 12-month neuroradiology year and postdocs in a North American radiology department’s neuroimaging programme. Training must overlap January–June 2027. Concurrent-award exclusions apply.

North American ASNR members in good standing with an MD, PhD, DO or equivalent and an active or imminent appointment in a radiology department. Physicians need the specified board eligibility/certification and neuroradiology training. Concurrent ASNR, RSNA Research Scholar, GERRAF or ARRS awards can disqualify applicants; seed and prior trainee awards have exceptions.

North American ASNR members in good standing with an MD, PhD, DO or equivalent and an active or imminent appointment in a radiology department. Physicians need the specified board eligibility/certification and neuroradiology training. Concurrent ASNR, RSNA Research Scholar, GERRAF or ARRS awards can disqualify applicants; seed and prior trainee awards have exceptions.

CanNRT members enrolled at a Canadian university as master’s or doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers or clinical fellows when funding begins; research must concern neurodevelopment or associated conditions.

PhD students and postdoctoral researchers within five years of starting their first postdoctoral fellowship.

MD and/or PhD neuroscience postdoctoral researchers with three to six years of postdoctoral experience by 1 July 2027, at a US institution, with at least 75% effort committed. A dean or equivalent institutional official must nominate the sole institutional candidate. Visa holders must have authorisation covering the award period.

PhD normally within four years, or the specified medical qualification/clinical pathway; at least 12 months of postdoctoral or post-medical research. Applicants must have Swiss nationality, a qualifying Swiss degree, or at least 12 months of qualifying post-degree research/clinical work in Switzerland. Full regulations and extension rules apply.

Early-career researchers ready to lead a creative research programme who meet Wellcome's career-stage, host-organization and research-remit rules. Applicants should confirm all scheme-specific eligibility before submission.

Applicants must identify as Black heritage, including the specified mixed Black backgrounds, and be UK nationals or have completed part of a UK undergraduate, masters or PhD degree or held a UK postdoctoral position. A PhD must be completed by the fellowship start; final-year doctoral applicants may apply with supervisor support. Less than 24 months of full-time postdoctoral experience is permitted at the deadline, with career-break adjustments. An eligible UK higher-education, research-council, nonprofit research or public-sector research host is required; permanent posts are ineligible.

Postdoc route: PhD within four years, or completion within six months. Experienced route: PhD within twelve years and an independent profile. Requires an eligible host and reviews. Previous Humboldt sponsorship excludes application; nationality, German-system integration and mobility conditions apply.

Outstanding doctorate, normally two years of postdoctoral experience and application within four years of the PhD; six years for licensed medicine/psychology applicants and permitted extensions apply. Substantial international research experience is required. Applicants already qualified for a professorship or holding equivalent group funding are excluded.

Early-career postdoctoral researchers. The German position route is open to researchers abroad irrespective of nationality or previous German employment. Funding outside Germany requires prior integration into Germany’s research system; additional education, residence and host-tenure limits apply. A German host declaration is needed for the position route.

Qualified researchers working at or cooperating with a clinic in Austria, with access to the required infrastructure. Projects must be hosted by an Austrian research institution and must not serve a direct commercial interest. Applicants must transfer their main research focus to Austria if it is currently abroad; maintaining a permanent research focus above 50% outside Austria is ineligible. The lead-institution employment requirement is at least five hours weekly for the project duration.

Applicants need a doctorate, appropriate research qualifications, an invitation from an excellent host abroad and an option to return to an Austrian institution. The FWF territoriality principle must be met; this is not an unrestricted incoming fellowship.
