About
PhD position in the Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine (IKOM), NTNU, as PhD project 3 of four coordinated projects in the interdisciplinary NTNU project Preparedness and Response to AMR, the silent pandemic, led by Professor Marit Otterlei (IKOM) and Professor Heidrun Åm (Department of Sociology and Political Science). Bloodstream infection and sepsis carry high mortality, and diagnosis by blood culture takes days. The candidate will develop and optimise magnetic nanobead-based enrichment of bacterial and yeast pathogens directly from whole blood, combined with rapid nucleic-acid extraction and sensitive molecular and mass-spectrometry detection, addressing low pathogen concentrations and host background to establish an integrated platform for faster, more accurate diagnosis.
Gross salary normally NOK 580,000 per year.
Requirements
Master's degree in molecular cell biology, biotechnology, microbiology or equivalent (including a 30 ECTS thesis); admission to the faculty's doctoral programme.
