Understanding the Mysteries of the Cell: How Do Mutations Arise in Our Bodies?

Genetics, Molecular Genetics, Cancer Biology and seminar by Stephen Quake, D. Phil. Lee Otterson Professor. Bioengineering and Physics, Stanford University

Hosted by Collège de France

Monday 17:00–18:00 Paris (GMT+2)

Recording available

Amphithéâtre Maurice-Halbwachs, Site Marcelin-Berthelot · In person

Abstract

Stephen Quake revisits the origins of genetic variation, connecting classic bacterial experiments with modern single-cell genomics. The lecture asks how mutations accumulate during human life, how they contribute to cancer and how tumour evolution can be reconstructed. It illustrates how measurements of individual cells help address these questions.
