About
Two-year postdoctoral position at the Institut de Recherche en Infectiologie de Montpellier on interactions between bacteriophages and mycobacteria. The main goal is to identify new receptors involved in phage recognition and genes involved in late stages of the infection process, to better understand the determinants of phage–host specificity and, in the longer term, to help optimise phage cocktails and develop new phage-therapy strategies. The project will characterise several environmental phages and determine their host range on a collection of clinical Mycobacterium abscessus strains, evaluate lysis efficiency and specificity in vitro with and without antibiotics to study possible synergy between phage therapy and antibiotic therapy, and generate phage-resistant bacterial mutants whose genomic analysis will identify genes involved in phage resistance and bacterial genes required for early and late steps of phage infection.
Most experiments take place in a biosafety level 2 laboratory. Start date 1 February 2027; gross monthly salary from €3,021.50, adjustable with experience.
Requirements
Molecular biology techniques including PCR, cloning, transformation and deletion-mutant construction; solid knowledge of phage and mycobacterial biology; strong experience in bacterial genomics and sequence analysis; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
